Shehab & Rhanuma – marriage

Just wanted to chime in and share a quick little marriage ceremony of two of my friends.  Shehab and Rhanuma are already sort of married, but they have to get the documents to make it legal.  So they were gracious enough to invite me to celebrate the process with them, and I happily obliged.  This wasn’t really a wedding, but just to get the marriage license and a quick little ceremony.  Unfortunately, the court had a 24 hour wait policy for ceremony after getting the license, just incase a bride or groom changes their mind… so I didn’t get to photograph the short ceremony.  However, I still managed to get some pj style shots around city hall, and get some cool shots on Shehab’s wicked motorcycle.  I’m saying wicked because Shehab’s a fan of Boston, and they say things like “wicked” a lot up there.  Anywho, without further ado, I present you the images.  Congratulations again guys.

2011: A new beginning

A new year is often associated with a new beginning, or a new change. Every year, people embrace this idea for a change, but often fail to keep their promises and resolutions. Like many, I decided that 2011 is a year to make changes in my life and my work, and I intend to stick true to my word. This year, there will be many of new and exciting changes that will be coming to Limon Photography. Some of you may like the changes, others may not like them as much. However, after much deliberation, I decided to embrace the changes to make Limon Photography what I want it to be. Most things will stay the same, but somethings will be new and exciting.

With that being said, I want to officially welcome you to my first event of 2011. A few weeks back, one of my good photographer friends, Inku Yo, asked if someone in the area could help and assist him for an upcoming wedding. Now if you know Inku, then you know that he’s an incredible photographer. What? You don’t know him? You need to click here immediately and go check out how incredible his stuff is. No seriously, I’ll wait. Ok, where were we? I was in the area and free, so I had no problems offering my services to help him out with the wedding. I met up with Inku on a very cold Friday morning, and we met the lovely Rita and her husband to be, Tom. Tom and Rita were pure delight to work with on their wedding day. Both of them were relaxed and wanted to have a lot of fun, and that’s exactly how the day went. Rita was worried at one point about being a few minutes late for something, but I told her stories from some of the South Asian weddings that I cover, and assured her that we were definitely on time. After they got ready, we had a quick first look, and went to a beautiful church for the ceremony. I hopped in the limo with them to ensure that I would be able to document all the fun of the wedding day. The reception was held at the beautiful Bronx Botanical garden, where the party went on till midnight or so.

Now I want to take this moment and say that I’ve second shot weddings for a few photographers in the past. Some are easy to work with, some are quite difficult and demanding, and some can be downright strange. However, Inku is by far one of the easiest person that I’ve ever worked with so far. Although we covered three different locations that were pretty far apart, he gave me plenty of information as the day went through, and I had a great time working with him throughout the day. I want to thank Inku again for being such an awesome photographer to work with, but also for giving me the opportunity to work with a wonderful couple such as Rita and Tom. Hopefully we’ll get an opportunity for another collaboration soon! Anyway, without further ado, I present you the wedding of Rita and Tom from my perspective. Be sure to check out Inku’s webiste to see more from this wedding.

Abdul Rahman & Suzanne – Nikkah

I want to start off and wish everyone one of you a very happy new year.  I hope all of you had an exciting 2010, and will continue to have a better 2011.  There will be a lot of new and exciting things coming here this year, so be on the look out for that.

For the first post of the new year, I want to bring you guys a nikkah ceremony of Suzanne and Abdul Rahman.  Suzanne is best friends with Hagar, who happens to be the wife of one of my best friends, Ian.  I haven’t known her very long, but  from the few brief moments we have met, I quickly came to the conclusion that Suzanne is very smart, humble, and sincere individual.  I’ve known her family for a while, and they are truly one of the most generous and helpful family in the community.  One problem that Suzanne and I share is that we care a bit too much for the well being of our friends, and don’t want to bother or burden them.  Even with the stress of medical school exams, Suzanne was trying to plan and organize this event by herself, which in my opinion is just plain crazy. Needless to say, we all were able to convince her that friends could help with planning the wedding, so after a while, she was finally able to relax. On the day of the event, we decided to do a quick outdoor shoot and then head to the nikkah program.  We had already missed the sunset, but I still wanted to try to get some shots outdoor. Regardless of the challenges, we somehow still managed to get some beautiful moments captured during this brief session… even with no light present!  I had the pleasure of meeting Suzanne’s new husband, Abdul Rahman during this time.  AR is not only a very charming individual, but once you engage in a conversation with him, you quickly realize how funny and down to earth he really is.  We did another mini shoot at the hotel, and then headed to the nikkah program.  I was mainly in charge of shooting the guys side of things, so once the nikkah ceremony finished, the event split in two, and I covered the men.  We had a live band, we had awesome desserts and coffee, we had lot of dancing and debkah, and just a lot of fun that guys typically have.  Suzanne may tell you that the girls had more fun, but I think it was the other way around. So without further ado, I bring you the pictures below:
