Hello everyone! I hope all of you had a wonderful summer! Before the season officially changes over, I want to showcase one of my favorite weddings from this summer. Today, I bring you the wedding of Ramy and Nikita. If you don’t already know about this awesome couple, I suggest you check out their E-session that we did last year around Brooklyn. You know when you see a couple and they are just meant for each other? Well, that’s exactly the case with these two! This was a special wedding not only because how cool and awesome the couple was, but also because it was a mesh of Egyptian and Guyanese goodness, and I’m always about that mesh of cultures! These two have a special connection to Brooklyn, so the wedding of course had to take place in the BK, as well as most of the photos we did afterwards. There were tons of special moments, lots of music and dancing, and lots of cool people all around. Not to mention there was a pretty baller Rolls Royce in the mix. I can keep talking about how awesome this wedding was, but I’m pretty sure you would rather see the photos instead 😀 As always, feel free to like, share, or leave a comment below.
Congratulations again Ramy & Nikita!
Special thanks to Franklin for coming out and helping out on this one!
Today I bring you a very special blog post that features the wedding of my friends Hanif & Shirin. About 3 years back, I made the official move to New York based off of the suggestion of my good friend Habib. My brother told me that the one person I should most definitely meet is Habib’s cousin Hanif. Sure enough, the more and more people I spoke to, they all had raving things to say about Hanif, and what an awesome person he was. When I finally met him in person, I understood instantly why he had such an awesome reputation amongst the community. Hanif is one of the most genuine and interesting human beings I’ve had the pleasure of meeting! Hanif is intelligent, witty, very funny, talented in many things, a passionate community leader, one of THE nicest person I’ve ever met, and truly has a heart of gold. If that wasn’t enough, although he is of Iranian descent, he can speak/read/write Bangla better than me and all of my siblings! I’m about 95% sure that if my parents heard Hanif recite Bengali poetry, they will adopt him as our 4th sibling. At that very first meeting, I also had the pleasure of meeting Hanif’s other half, Shirin “Bonu”. Just like her counterpart, Shirin is also super nice, intelligent, compassionate, and super talented. I’m not just saying she’s talented as in she’s talented, I’m saying she’s talented as in she’s an Emmy nominated producer! Shirin and I connected instantly over our love of film and movies, and it’s a bond that’s only grown over the years. Not only have we been great friends, but she also helped me land a part-time job at a local tv station, so we’re co-workers as well! One thing was for certain when I met these two, and that was that they both really liked each other, and cared deeply for one and another.
Hanif & Shirin planned on having a small intimate wedding ceremony at their home, and then do a bigger celebration in their homeland of Iran. I absolutely love the more intimate weddings since they are so personal and have such special moments throughout, so I was very down to help capture some of these moments. This was an absolutely beautiful ceremony, with some really amazing people! Hanif and Shirin’s family members were just as loving and caring as they are themselves, and even as a photographer, I felt like family being there. It was a very sweet event, with lots of great people, food, and sweets! Side note, Hanif’s mom makes one of the best baklava I’ve ever had! The ceremony was beautiful and touching, the decor was charming and traditional to the persian heritage, the food was incredible… I mean I can talk about what an amazing everything was, but I rather let the photos do the talking for me! Without further ado, check out the photos from Hanif & Shirin’s wedding below.
I am honored to present to you today, the wedding of Kyaw & Suzanne. I’ve shot a lot of weddings over the years, but this particular wedding is very special and close to me. The reason being is that Kyaw just so happens to be one of my closest childhood friends. Back in the 90’s, I was a lonely 5th grader who had just moved to Queens New York, and didn’t know anyone other than my family. My english was still rusty, so I wasn’t as confident about talking to others or making friends. I remember in school, Kyaw was one of the first person who actually made the effort to talk to me, and we instantly became friends. After a few weeks, we became best friends, and pretty much did everything together. Besides hanging out in school and going to most of the same classes, we had our after school ritual of going to the local deli to get some sour straw candies, and then heading over to a comic book store right across the school, which not only had comics, but also had arcade games like NBA Jam, Monster Truck Madness, and Street Fighter II. To a kid in the 90’s, that’s basically the holy grail. Our time mainly consisted of collecting NBA and Marvel trading cards (I still have them somewhere), reading comics, playing games, talking about which girls we kinda liked, talking about how strict our parents are, going over to each others home and playing more video games, and talking about really important topics like ‘Which power ranger is the best’ [that would be the Green ranger of course!]. To be a kid, have no worries, and just play video games all the time… those were the days. I would give anything to go back to that time! After a year and a half, we moved to North Carolina, but Kyaw and I still remained friends, and kept in touch.
Fast forward 20 years, and I found myself moving back to New York. When I met up with Kyaw again, it’s like nothing had changed, and both of us were instantly reminiscing about the good ‘ol days of 5th grade. What was even cooler is that Kyaw told me that he had finally met the girl of his dreams, Suzanne. Kyaw met Suzanne through a site called how about we, and by his 3rd date, he knew that she was the one, and had asked her to marry him. I was super stoked for Kyaw, but even more excited when he told me that he wanted me to photograph his wedding! I of course had to meet this dream girl, so I had the chance to meetup with Suzanne, and even through the brief encounter, I could tell that she was an amazing person, and had a very down to earth personality. On top of that, Suzanne has one of the best hand writing that I’ve seen on anyone! I know that’s a strange thing to mention, but no one really writes these days, so it’s a remarkable skill in my opinion. These two have such a natural chemistry, that there’s really no surprise that they wanted to marry each other.
This was a very fun wedding, with really fun people all around. Suzanne looked stunning, just regal in her dress, and I’ve never seen Kyaw as happy as he was on their wedding day. It also had a lot of fun quirks that only someone growing up in the 90’s would appreciate, such as basketball trading cards as table gifts, superhero themed cufflinks, and customized sneakers for all the groomsmen! It was an honor photographing this wedding, and I am really happy for one of my best friends fo find true love. Without further ado, I present you the wedding of Kyaw and Suzanne.
